The 2025 BMW X5 M has historically outperformed competitors in its segment, including the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and Porsche Cayenne Turbo, both of which are noted for their exceptional handling. But because the X5 M has established itself as the industry standard, the recently revised X5 range faces a significant challenge. Only available in the Competition trim level for 2025, the X5 M is powered by a new V8 engine with mild hybrid support.

The 2025 BMW X5 M Competition receives a significant redesign along with the rest of the X5 series for the 2019 model year, which features an entirely new front end. The redesigned bumpers, which include an X-shaped lower air intake and a blacked-out twin kidney grille, are referred to as “crisp” and “muscular” by BMW. The enlarged lower air intakes offer more than just an aggressive appearance; they also encourage the best possible air flow to cool the engine and brake system.

The inside of the 2025 BMW X5 M Competition receives a significant makeover, too, and is designed around the BMW Curved Display. The 12.3-inch information cluster and the 14.9-inch infotainment screen are combined on a single glass surface that is angled toward the driver to save time spent taking one’s eyes off the road. Standard leather upholstery covers the dashboard, which now has redesigned central air vents that are thinner to better fit into the instrument panel.
Standard carbon fiber trim highlights the interior space, but wood trims are an option as well. In addition to looking ultra-modern, an ambient light bar with a crystalline surface structure and LEDs bearing the M emblem is mounted up front and in front of the passenger. It can be customized on the iDrive menu and serves as an alert or notice for calls, texts, or other similar events. The inside of the X5 M Competition, which comes in six colors, including a brand-new Individual Ivory White/Atlas Grey combo, is lined with plush Merino leather.
2025 BMW X5 M Engine
The new S68 4.4-liter V8 engine is housed in the 2025 BMW X5 M Competition. This component, which was originally seen in the X7 M60i, now has modest hybrid support from a 48V battery. A strengthened crankshaft drive, improved turbocharging, a new air intake duct, a new vane-type oil pump, and a lightweight plastic oil sump are some of the improvements. The whole thing works together to provide 553 lb-ft of torque between 1,800 and 5,800 rpm. With a maximum output of 617 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, the X5 M Competition can rev from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 moments. Its peak speed is restricted to 155 mph, but with the M Driver’s Package installed, it can reach 177 mph.
Torquefill capabilities are provided by an electric motor that lives assembled into the container of the eight-speed automatic gearbox. The electric motor does not boost the overall output despite having 12 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque on its own. Instead, the electric motor also serves as a crankshaft-mounted starting generator, which speeds up power supply and makes engine starts smoother, especially during automatic start-stop in traffic.

A $995 destination and shipping charge is not included in the starting price of the 2025 BMW X5 M Competition, which is $122,300. This costs $13,400 more than the base 2023 X5 M and almost double what the base 2025 X’s MSRP is. However, it only costs $4,100 more than the competition-spec version from before the makeover.
